LEWIS HAMILTON kept his slim Forumla One title hopes alive by winning the German Grand Prix.
The Brit led on four separate occasions before bringing home home his McLaren 3.9 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, with Mark Webber a further 5.8secs down in third.Reigning champion Sebastian Vettel was forced to settle for fourth after a dramatic last-lap pitstop battle with Alonso's team-mate Felipe Massa, who finished fifth.
But although his lead has been cut for the first time this season, the German still holds a 77-point cushion over Webber. Hamilton now trails the Red Bull star by 82 points, while Alonso is a further four behind.
A delighted Hamilton said: "When you do finally hit the sweet spot, it couldn't feel any better.
"We never expected to come here and be so fast and competitive, but that was one of the best races I've ever done.
