Cesc Fabregas leaves Arsenal for Barcelona

CESC FABREGAS has ended the summer's longest-running transfer saga by signing a five-year deal with Barcelona.

Following confirmation last night that Barca had reached an agreement with Arsenal, Fabregas undertook a two-stage medical in Spain this morning.

And the 24-year-old midfielder, who has had a £175million buy-out clause inserted in his contract, was introduced to the Nou Camp faithful after being handed the No4 shirt.  

Fabregas said: "For me it's a special day. I'm returning home.
"I know that the Arsenal fans will be disappointed with my exit from the club, but I'm here to face an incredible challenge — the challenge of my life.
"To get the No4 shirt is very special. I know there has been a debate about whether Thiago Alcantara should have it but I'm very pleased to be able to wear the number.

"I come here with great humility because I know I have a lot to learn and I can learn a lot from Pep Guardiola and this great team.

He added: "I'll never have enough words to thank Wenger for all he's done for me. I'll never forget him.

"The relationship is fantastic. On Friday I said goodbye to him and I got very emotional because he's like a father figure to me.
"I couldn't even talk at one stage when I wanted to say how grateful I was. I got a bit emotional and couldn't talk much.
"I had to send him a message afterwards, saying 'I'll never forget what you've done for me'.
"If it hadn't been for him I wouldn't be here today, living my dream."

Breivik back on murder island

MASSACRE monster Anders Breivik once again stalked the island of Utoya - as he showed police how he slaughtered his 69 victims.

Tethered to a rope like an animal, he was seen raising his arms in a firing position at the water's edge to demonstrate how he picked off terrified victims as they tried to swim to freedom.
Officers gathering evidence against the 32-year-old beast videoed his every move as he attempted to recall each shot fired with his semi-automatic Ruger Mini 14 rifle.
But the killer - who is proud of his twisted gun rampage - did not show a flicker of remorse during his eight hours at the scene of the horror.
He arrived on the island at 2pm on Saturday - on the same ferry he took on the fateful afternoon of July 22. He was made to wear a bullet-proof vest to guard against revenge attacks.

Breivik - who admits the killings but denies any criminal guilt - wore a red shirt and a yellow harness attached to a long rope. He was shadowed by a dozen cops as a police helicopter hovered overhead.
Police could be seen following him past the Utoya club house and up a hill into a wooded area where most of his victims had been camping.

Breivik's lawyer, Geir Lippestad, said his client claimed to be able to recall every shot and every person killed.
Lippestad said Breivik believed the massacre was necessary to save Norway from Muslim immigration.

The monster spent years planning the attack on a summer camp of the youth wing of the governing Labour Party, where most of his victims were teenagers or in their 20s. He created a diversion before heading to Utoya by detonating a huge bomb that killed eight near government buildings in the Norwegian capital of Oslo.
The attacks traumatised the Scandinavian nation, which prides itself on its tolerance and multiculturalism.

Prosecutor Paal-Fredrik Hjort Kraby said yesterday: "The suspect showed he wasn't emotionally unaffected by being back at Utoya - but he didn't show remorse. He has been questioned for around 50 hours and has been calm, detailed and collaborative, and that was also the case on Utoya."
Breivik has claimed that he phoned police ten times during the shootings to try to turn himself in - but that eight of his calls went unanswered.

Police officials confirmed yesterday they had received several phone calls from him during the terror attack, but declined to say how they had reacted.

A SHOPLIFTING mum downs up to 28 pints of lager in a single day, a court heard.

Dawn Marsden, 31, drinks so much she should be dead, experts said.
She was wrecked as she appeared on a theft charge and had to ask reporters later what her sentence was.
Jobless Marsden spends all day drinking cheap lager at home in Hartlepool, Teesside, and steals to fund her habit. The charge related to ten packs of bacon stolen from a Co-op and sold for £1 each.
Her solicitor John Relton told the town's magistrates: "You may have noticed my client has a drink problem. She will drink up to 16 litres a day. She has a long-standing appetite for alcohol."
Her two-year-old daughter was taken into foster care because of her boozing, the court heard. Marsden, who has a string of previous convictions for theft, admitted the new charge and was handed a six-month conditional discharge.
She then turned to a reporter to check the sentence, before branding it a "sham" and walking out.
Her booze intake is a staggering 84 units in 24 hours - the recommended safe guideline for women for a month.
She sinks more than the drink-drive limit EVERY HOUR of the day.

After the hearing, addiction counsellor Dr Robert Lefever said her body would not cope if she suddenly stopped.
He said: "She should be dead at those levels. The reason she isn't is that she has trained her body by drinking every day. She is the equivalent of an Olympic athlete when it comes to drinking."
Yesterday Marsden said: "I'm going on detox next month."

"All I want is a few hand-me-downs. If I had another £120 a month I'd be able to buy them clothes myself."
Greedy Moira lives in a three-bedroom home in Gillingham, Kent. She said she spends around £300 a week at the supermarket alone.
